Welcome back!
Humpty Dumpty is back to shower some tips and ease out your parenting journey. Last time we talked about DIAPERS, some tiny yet effective CLOTHING TIPS for infants and toddlers, and much more. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg! More importantly, “We have to prepare the child for the path, not the path for the child.” In this blog, we will be focusing on preschoolers (3-5 years of age) and the big-small milestones that come in their journey. During this time, your child will be growing through various changes including various developmental milestones. This is the time when they begin to explore the things, people, and objects around them. This time period will lay the foundation of their personality. Focusing on motor skills, thinking, and moving is very necessary to ensure their overall growth. If your kiddo is asking you a lot of questions, generally non-sensical and absurd, and you are having a hard time trying to figure out the answer to why he doesn’t have a tail and his dad has a beard under his

arms, you are on the right path. THAT’S PERFECTLY NORMAL! The P in Dumpty stands for ‘Precious.’ Your kids are as precious to us as they are to you. As your child starts to grow, this is the ideal time to teach him/her how to be aware of his surroundings, stay away from strangers, and how he/she can ensure their own safety. It goes unsaid that no matter how good you teach him/her, keep your eyes on them, especially when they are OUTDOORS playing. Check the toys/swings that they are playing with for any shard edges or loose parts. Be extra careful while traveling in a car, even if you carry him/her in a booster seat, it should be in the back seat and not the front. The extreme of anything is harmful, don’t be overprotective for your child’s dafety. Let them get dirty, let them play with their bare hands, Let kids be kids! However, don’t forget to properly clean them afterwards. next big talk of the day is health and nutrition! If you want your kids to enjoy fruits and veggies, then eat with your child and show them that you enjoy them too. Give your child a proper balanced diet containing all important nutrients and limit foods or beverages that contain added sugar. A 10-13 hour sleep is necessary for your child’s growth. But proper food and sleep aren’t the only requirements for a healthy pre-schooler. Today, mobile phones and internet have become the fourth necessity of our lives after food, clothes and a home. Listening to jingles and rhymes on youtube is fine. However, prolonged exposure to blue screens can have an extremely negative impact on your child’s health. The solution to your gadget worries, is setting limits on the screen time. And remember, your small copy will eventually grow to follow your footsteps. So if you snooze your screen time, you will be amazed to see how quick kids catch up with their parents! If you can read such long articles on how to be a better parent, then I know that you can be the best role model for your little one. And finally, in the last segment, here are some positive parenting tips to ease out your journey with the right motivation –

  1. Children do not say,”I have had a hard day. Can we talk?” They say,”Will you play with me?” So, whenever you have time, PLAY with them. The key to building a better future for them is by being there for them in the present.
  2. Reading from a hard cover, a paperback, anything but a photoshopped kindle, is one of the best habits you can slowly feed into their system. Read to them, read with them, read for them!
  3. Encourage empathy and compassion. Teach them to donate the extra to those in need. You can start by gifting their old clothes or books to your maid’s daughter. This small act will teach your child the importance of giving back to the society.
  4. Responsibility in small chunks is better than spoiling. Give them small choirs, whether it is keeping everyone’s plates in the sink from the dining table or making their bed in the morning, these small tasks will instill in them a sense of discipline that will lst a lifetime.
  5. Teach your kid how to deal with his/her mood when she is not feeling well. Do not shout or scold if they are acting up. Tell them to search what makes them feel this way and help them reach to the right solution through the right path.
  6. Motivate them to make friends and communicate in proper sentences. This will also make them understand the value of friendship and sharing.
  7. And lastly, let them choose between a dairy milk and a kitkat, a blue jeans and a red one. Small decisions like this help them become better decision-makers tomorrow.

That’s it for today! I will leave you will some food for thought – It’s not our job to toughen our children up to face a cruel and heartless world. It’s our job to raise children who will make the world a little less cruel and heartless.’
